Program Overview
The YWCA of Northwest Louisiana is an affiliate of the YWCA USA and has been in the Shreveport/Bossier community since 1925 serving women and teen girls through a variety of programs that have evolved through the years. The current programs of the YWCA are: trauma counseling for women and teens who are victims of crime; support and advocacy to older women victims of crime; the LEAD program (Leadership, Empowerment and Development) for teen girls in at-risk schools and community centers; a parent education program for teenage mothers, the YW Strive workforce development program that provides women, especially women of color, with the basic digital skills needed to gain sustainable employment; and racial justice programs including Dialogue on Race. The Board of Directors is made up of 17 women who represent a diverse cross-section of the community with a range of skills and experience. The primary sources of funding for the YWCA are Crime Victims' Assistance grant, Beaird Foundation, Grayson Foundation, Community Foundation, and the YWCA's social enterprise, Fab Finds, a resale shop that provides unrestricted funds for the organization.
