Program Overview

Adult ESL classes meet a continuing need in our community, helping residents improve their English communication skills and function more effectively in the United States. The YWCA
Elgin ESL programs integrates:

- Speaking,reading, and writing skills
- Computer skills

- Civic Participation

- Job Readiness Skills

- Career Exploration
- Financial Literacy

The YWCA ESL Program is funded through the Illinois Community College Board

n addition to the Adult ESL
classes the YWCA Elgin offers Family Literacy, which serves to "empower the parent to grow the child." During the regular school year, (Sept – May), adult ESL students attend classes while their children attend ESL preschool. On Fridays, the parent and child join together for special interactive activities.
