Program Overview
The YMCA’s Y Roads Literacy Centers are part of the Department of Youth and Community Development’s Young Adult Literacy Program (YALP) is a partnership with the Mayor’s Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) for youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who lack the reading, writing and/or math skills needed to enroll in a High School Equivalency (HSE - formerly GED) Tests Preparation Program. Programs provide 15 hours per week of literacy and math instruction with the goal of increasing youth’s skills to enroll in a High School Equivalency exam preparation program. Participants in YALP receive supports to set goals, discuss problems and learn about obtaining a job, going to college and other topics. Students with strong attendance can participate in a paid internship project. WHO CAN PARTICIPATE Young people who are:between the ages of 16 and 24, not enrolled in school, nor working, read between the 4th and 8th grade levels as measured through the TABE test, able to attend the program daily Monday to Friday, 9am to 2pmCost Info
