Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Youth Program Success Story: Kaleeia Chapman

Kaleeia Chapman enrolled in the WIOA youth program in February 2015 at the age of 18. Kaleeia entered the
program with countless goals, but numerous barriers; being low income, having no work history, lacking basic math and English skills, and needing a high school diploma.

Over the next year Kaleeia attended tutoring classes and took the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) several times. And with determination and perseverance she tested for a sixth
time and passed in February 2016.

After finally achieving her secondary education goal, she moved on to finally entering into a Massage Therapy Program with the assistance of her career coach. Over the past nine
months Kaleeia nearly gave up and dropped out several times as she was still lacking some of the needed math and English skills. However, over and over again her career coach and other HELP of Southern Nevada staff were here to
support and encourage her. In November 2016 Kaleeia completed her Massage Therapy Program, including 100 plus hours of hands-on clinical experience. Kaleeia is appreciative of the WIOA program and the support she received in order to meet her goals. Kaleeia's next goal…find her dream job!
