Student and Volunteer Success Stories

This month, Women's Refugee Care is proud to shine the spotlight on Haley, a senior at Brown University who has been making an incredible impact in our community. As part of a French class focused on the refugee experience, Haley joined our ESL classes alongside Maggie, supporting refugee women in learning essential English skills to navigate daily life with greater ease.

Haley's journey with WRC is rooted in her passion for language and connection. With a major in English and French, Haley has been speaking French for over a decade and recently studied abroad in Paris. Her work at WRC has been a meaningful way to blend her academic interests with a commitment to making a positive difference. This spring, as Maggie steps away to welcome her baby, Haley will take the lead in teaching the ESL classes—a role she approaches with excitement and dedication. Reflecting on her experience, Haley shared her admiration for the resilience and determination of the women she works with. “These women work so hard to integrate themselves into the community, despite the immense challenges they face.
