Program Overview

WesTech Training Center is a workforce development-focused education and training initiative that prepares learners for competitive career pathways. The mission is to equip adult learners to access wealth by reskilling and upskilling. Our offerings include English as a Second Language classes, basic computer classes, and technical career training in high demand professions, such as information technology, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Wesley House has been transforming families through workforce training programs for more than a century. The mission remains strong and relevant to the needs of today. In the last fiscal year, WesTech touched 162 adults, and 72% of those participants gained employment resulting in more than $250,000 in economic investment.

WesTech's primary objectives are:

• Financial Security: The program aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to secure stable employment and increase their earning potential. By providing training, education, and career development opportunities, the program empowers participants to gain access to higher-paying jobs and enhance their financial stability.

• Wealth Gap Reduction: Recognizing the disparities faced by black, brown, and low-income households, the program focuses on closing the wealth gap by providing targeted support and resources. Through financial literacy education, asset-building strategies, and training for competitive industries, participants are equipped with the tools to accumulate wealth and break the cycle of poverty.

• Family Support: The program understands the importance of a strong family foundation in achieving long-term financial security. It offers a range of supportive services, including childcare assistance and school-age programs. By addressing directly or providing thoughtful referrals, the program supports the holistic needs of families.

• Community Collaboration: The program actively collaborates with local organizations, employers, and community stakeholders to expand opportunities and create pathways to economic advancement. By forging partnerships, the program leverages existing resources and networks to maximize its impact and facilitate sustainable change within the community.

WFD: Applied Digital Skills Success Story
Donna Duke is cooking up something special. As a senior citizen, she has plenty to share with the world. She was not going to let a little thing like technology stop her mission to deliver good food for her family, friends and eventually the world. She embraced computer technology through the Google Applied Digital Skills class offered by Wesley House Community Services Workforce Development. Her journey to familiarize herself with computers and tools like Google Docs not only brought her closer to fulfilling her dream of creating a family style cookbook, rich with recipes and traditions but also empowered her to collaborate efficiently in her home in Jefferson County, KY with her proofreader in Clay County. She is now confident in whipping up recipes in Google Docs on her new computer. Ms. Duke is eager to continue learning and improving her technology skills through more classes. She's a shining example of how determination,
perseverance, and a willingness to learn can help achieve dreams, regardless of age or initial familiarity with technology.
