Program Overview

The Family Silent Book Club is a free, monthly reading program for elementary-aged students and their families in Hoke County. The program creates a calm, welcoming space where children and adults can enjoy reading and build strong literacy habits together. The book club meets once a month at Upchurch Elementary School. Each session begins with a short, simple literacy lesson led by teachers, followed by time to read. Participants can choose their own books from a wide variety of age-appropriate options and read at their own pace. Children also take part in fun reading activities in the library that support reading skills like vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency. Books and materials are available in English and Spanish, and translators will be present during book club meetings. The Family Silent Book Club is open to elementary students and parents who want to build a love of reading.
