Program Overview

Valencia County Literacy Council has helped adults learn since 1987. Our classes and tutoring are free. Anyone 16 or older is welcome, wherever you are starting. You choose your goals, and we go at your pace. Many people come to read, write, do math, or speak English. Others want help with money, computers, or the citizenship test. Parents and children can learn together in our family literacy program. You can work with a tutor one-on-one or in a small group. We meet in Los Lunas, Meadowlake, Jarales, and the Belen Public Library. Want to be a tutor? Patience and care matter most, and we train you. We match you with a learner. Tutors meet with their learner about once a week. Call 505-737-3523 or visit valencialiteracy.com. Our office is at 309 El Cerro Mission Blvd, Los Lunas.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

I registered for English class at VCLC in February 2018. I stopped coming during the pandemic. I came back in September 2025 and asked for computer classes. At the beginning I didn’t know how to turn the computer on. Now I have learned how to write emails and respond to them. I also learned how to make a slide presentation, and it was so exciting. It is still difficult for me because there is a lot to learn, but I will stay in class because it is a necessity to succeed in life. Thanks to VCLC for the opportunity, and to the volunteers who donated their time.
