Program Overview

UPT provides families with FREE programming featuring academic support and an opportunity for the youth to enjoy fun learning in a safe environment. The emphasis on academics allows our youth to get on the correct learning path to access the information they need to succeed. Our program provides youth work development, in which our StreetLeaders work as tutors and counselors in our afterschool and summer programs assisting with implementing curriculums and leading movement activities. Students attending our program come from families living in the Trenton area. We have a mixed population of Black and Latino campers and are intentional about hiring bilingual staff to avoid any language barriers. We welcome all families at no cost because we don't want finances to be an obstacle. We have established an inclusive environment for all.

Academic progress is achieved through programming that builds a foundation in core subjects like math, reading, writing, and science. In these areas, we can help our students gain a strong start for future education and career opportunities. Social-emotional learning is an opportunity to provide our students with ways to understand self-awareness and self-management. An essential part of the development of the youth in our community is to help students manage their emotions, set goals, and cope with adverse experiences they may face. Participants will develop social skills that encourage empathy, active listening, teamwork, and conflict resolution. Life skills development is an area of supplementary tools we offer that often are not part of the curriculum at our students' schools.
