Program Overview
For 125 years, the New York Public Library (NYPL) has been an essential provider of educational programs and resources. From English language classes and technology training to storytimes, we give New Yorkers of all ages the tools they need to succeed.
The Library’s pre-Kindergarten programs help families bridge the learning gap by teaching babies and toddlers a love of reading. For youth and teenagers, NYPL hosts Teen Centers with the latest technology and creative software. Library classes help young adults develop their interests, participate in STEM and arts activities, check out books, and get academic support from librarians, tech specialists, and career mentors. NYPL After School, the Library’s drop-in homework help program, offers after-school tutoring and engagement to make sure that all first- through sixth-graders have the tools they need to succeed in school and out.
For thousands of adult New Yorkers, the Library’s adult education classes are the only way to receive free courses that help them succeed in the workplace. NYPL offers job support, English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, and tech classes.
Finally, the Library’s Center for Educators and Schools serves teachers, professors, school librarians and other educators. NYPL will expand this program in the coming years, creating learning materials, offering field trips to Library sites, and creating in-person and online professional development opportunities.
