Program Overview

The May Literacy Center is located on the campus of Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. The MLC is housed in Suite 186 of Conway Hall. The MLC provides free reading and writing tutoring to support the literacy development of students in grades K-8. Students are tutored once a week for 75 minutes by Salisbury University pre-service Early Childhood and Elementary Education majors and Graduate students in the Masters Reading Specialist Certification program. The tutors are supervised by the Early Childhood and Elementary Education Faculty at Salisbury University.

Students are offered tutoring in phonics, fluency, word study, comprehension, vocabulary and writing. Students are given formal and informal assessments to develop individualized tutoring plans. The tutoring sessions are:

Fall Semester - September to December

Spring Semester - February to May

Summer Semester - July

The May Literacy Center does not provide homework assistance during the tutoring sessions. The May Literacy Center does not accept walk-ins. The May Literacy Center provides tutoring for students on the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland and Southern Delaware. Transportation to and from tutoring sessions is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
