Program Overview

The Learning Collaborative is a comprehensive pre-school program with hands-on involvement between teachers, students, families, patrons and the community. Providing transportation, hot meals, speech language and literacy development, and intensive family support, we have a long and successful history of developing children who are ready and excited to learn upon entering kindergarten, while coaching parents to participate in their child's education as both teacher and advocate.

TLC has earned a five star license and accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), major achievements in early education. Only 15 preschools in Mecklenburg County, and 166 in the state, have been awarded this rigorous certification.

Mission Statement

Our Mission: The Learning Collaborative (TLC) provides a tuition free, high quality preschool education to at-risk families through a unique partnership with our children, families, parents, staff and community.

Our Vision: Our vision is that children and parents working together can overcome at-risk beginnings through an early educational intervention, paving the way for success in kindergarten and beyond, inspiring a love of learning, confidence in themselves and hope for their futures.

Program’s Demographics/Metrics

The Learning Collaborative is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, a 25 year program which offers "a national, voluntary accreditation system to set professional standards for early childhood education programs, and to help families identify high-quality programs." Of the many preschool programs in Mecklenburg County, only 13 have gone through the extensive assessments required to achieve certification. There are only 125 accredited programs in North Carolina.

This year TLC was re-certified as a high quality preschool earning our renewal of the 5-star Rating issued by the NC Division of Child Development. We are one of 118 5-star programs in Charlotte.
The Learning Collaborative has four classrooms, two preschool classrooms and two Pre-K classrooms. Enrollment in each classroom is 16 children with one teacher and one assistant teacher.
