Program Overview

The Pick Up and Read Up Literacy Summer Program was developed for youth, adults and struggling readers. It is the continuing of higher functioning of literacy in the Northwest Community of Detroit and a 2-week literacy summer program.

The overall purpose of the Pick It Up-Open it Up Literacy Program is to provide youth, adults and struggling readers an academic advantage by reinforcing well founded reading skills, providing strategies and support in developing new reading skills, to obtain an above minimum reading level, and may help to deter delinquent behavior and encourage confidence in literacy.
