The Family Discovery Center

Program Overview

The Family Discovery Center is a vibrant, multigenerational family support program dedicated to empowering families from pregnancy through early childhood. Our adult English literacy classes strengthen language skills, while our child development programs nurture little ones from birth to age four, preparing them for lifelong learning and school success. Beyond classrooms, we provide wraparound services, LENA Start, engaging workshops, parenting classes and resources that support the whole family because thriving parents raise thriving children. At our center, every family finds guidance, growth, and a welcoming community to learn, connect, and flourish together.

Sofia knew she couldn't manage it all alone. She struggled to meet the needs of her son Daniel, who has epilepsy and other health challenges, while being the mom she wanted to be for her other children and attend ESOL classes. Her marriage took a backseat, too. The caring staff at JSSA's Family Discovery Center welcomed Sofia with wraparound support. We connected her to a support group for families of children with epilepsy, enrolled Daniel in developmental classes, LENA start and arranged for therapy to strengthen the whole family. We also purchased a video baby monitor for Daniel's bedroom, giving Sofia peace of mind to play with her other children while he napped and allowing her to finally sleep in her own room at night instead of by his side. Our spa day for moms, complete with massages and manicures, gave Sofia precious time for herself. These seemingly small gestures carried a big impact: by caring for herself, she could focus more fully on her family and her ESOL studies. Sofia and her husband went on their first date in years, a romantic dinner on their balcony. And Daniel grows stronger every day and so is her ESOL learning gains. Every time she walks through our doors, Sofia tells us she feels JSSA's Family Discovery Center care: for herself, for her family, and for their future.
