Program Overview
The Excel Center's mission is to provide adults the opportunity and support to earn a high school diploma and begin post-secondary education while developing career paths in sectors that offer better-than-average employment and growth opportunities. The school's philosophy is to “meet students where they are" by providing a flexible structure and supportive relationships to help them manage work, life, and family concerns as they achieve their educational goals. There are three main pillars to the Excel Center's philosophy:
(1) meeting the secondary education needs of adult students,
(2) facilitating College and Career Readiness and Career Pathways, and
(3) a coaching platform to address barriers that may impede a students' continued educational success.
By leveraging existing sectors that we currently offer through our workforce development program, students will be able to obtain a Pharmacy Technician, CNA/GNA, or a Warehouse and Logistics Certification. The College and Career Readiness Coordinator will connect individuals to those workforce sector certifications as well as post secondary education. During the last term, once the student has completed all requirements for their high school diploma, they will take a senior seminar class that goes towards an elective credit. The class covers sector skill certification as well as submitting applications for post secondary education if that is the track they are pursuing. Goodwill has a partnership with Baltimore City Community College, to not only transition individuals to community college, but also to offer dual credit courses so that the student can earn credits toward an associates degree.
