Program Overview

CFNC provides free, high-quality, multilingual preschool education for three- and four-year-olds across eight neighborhood classrooms. Using an evidence-based curriculum, literacy is embedded throughout the day to build early language, vocabulary, and print awareness. Instruction in children's home languages strengthens comprehension, confidence, and school readiness—especially critical as CFNC has seen increased speech and developmental delays following the pandemic.

CFNC also offers English Language Acquisition (ELA) referral services as a core part of its two-generation model. Many CFNC parents are English Language Learners who face barriers to jobs, education, and essential services. Through individualized support, referrals, and direct instruction, parents are connected to ESL classes and build practical literacy skills for daily life, self-advocacy, and engagement in their child's education. Multilingual Family Support Workers reinforce adult literacy through one-on-one coaching, assistance with school enrollment, health care, and employment, and referrals to trusted ESL providers.
