Program Overview
The Central Connecticut Family Literacy Center, established in 2010, is the only full service family literacy center in New Britain, Connecticut. Services are available to women with young children, ages 6 months-8 years. The Center services are available Monday-Thursday, 9:30AM-1:30PM. Women may enroll in either English language (ESL) or GED (high school diploma equivalency) classes. Early literacy programming is available to student's children, 6 months-5 years (preschool), on site while adults are in class.
Those enrolled must attend classes three days a week, the schedule is based upon student need and will be determined at the time of enrollment into the program.
Also available and required for participants are weekly: computer instruction, parent education classes, and special adult and child programming to build literacy skills.
Additional benefits of this YWCA location include access to: state funded and accredited Early Learning School Readiness Programming for children, crisis intervention and counseling through the YWCA Sexual Assault Crisis Service, exercise and fitness programs.
The Center operates at the YWCA and is a collaborative of the YWCA, Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut, and New Britain Adult Education. It is located downtown New Britain and convenient to bus transportation and highways.
Cost Info
There is no cost to clients for this service. However, the per participant cost of the program is $1041 annually based on YWCA expense only.Education services
