The Adult Renewal Academy

Program Overview

The Adult Renewal Academy (ARA) is a faith-based, holistic educational program where individuals 17-77 can improve their education competencies; learn biblical values, life, and job skills; secure employment; further their education; and work toward making a better life for themselves and their families.

The ARA:

• Has a caring, family-like atmosphere
• Taps into a population that has been considered unreachable by some educators
• Has 5 easily accessible locations within walking distance for most students including in Cedar Grove, Barksdale Annex, Queensborough, Highland/Noel, and the Highland Center
• Uses a holistic educational approach by assisting participants in all areas of their life, including through teaching biblical principles, character education, HiSET preparation, computer literacy, anger management, parenting, test-taking, decision-making, health care, and other life skills
• Has assigned personnel to assist students in college, trade school, and career preparation
• Offers students training in job skill enrichment classes, including welding, music, sewing, etc.
• Consists of five volunteers, seven certified teachers, two certified college instructors, three certified counselors, four additional degreed instructors, one reading specialist, and two former principals
