Program Overview

The Adult Literacy Program at the Bayard Taylor Memorial Library in Kennett Square has provided English as a Second Language classes and tutoring to adults in Southern Chester County since 1979. Our students gain the knowledge to become more skilled in the workplace, to communicate more effectively in and out of the home, and to become active participants and contributing members in our community. They can attend day or evening classes, language lab computer class, and evening classes to better their literacy skills. Also, they may work one-on-one with a volunteer tutor trained by the program's director to enhance their classwork and to further practice their skills.

Cost Info

The costs of the Adult Literacy Program are associated with literacy materials: text books, workbooks and ancillary materials, fees for classroom usage for day and evening classes, salary for five teachers from September to end of May, and salary for director and office assistant to run and direct the program.
