Teaching ESL-ADULT

Program Overview

In March, 2016 OBCC decided to create an English as a Second Language Program to meet our neighbor's and our international student's program needs of English. In OBCC's first year we had 36 students and were able to develop a strong team of 7 volunteer teachers. It was rewarding to see our students growing in their language skills, in confidence in who they are, and in relationship with one another. Most of our students come from the surrounding communities and the ESL program has been their first interaction with ESL classes. It has filled the gap for those who first entered this country and programs held at other locations This was just the beginning of what can happen! As OBCC ventures into more interaction with our neighbors we will see their needs met in learning the English language through OBCC's ESL program. We have had adults and youth attending in the past. Future OBCC plans may expand with both ages, free books and instruction, teachers and child care reimbursed and even other materials supplied.
