Program Overview

Stratford–Trumbull Continuing Education offers free classes for adults who want to improve their reading, writing, math, and English language skills or earn a high school diploma or equivalency. Classes are open to adults age 18 and older who live in Stratford, Trumbull, or surrounding communities. Programs include English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education, and High School Equivalency preparation. Classes are offered at different levels to meet student needs, from beginner to advanced. Students receive support from certified teachers and can use technology to help with learning in class and at home. Classes are held at Stratford Public Schools locations and follow a supportive, welcoming environment. Our goal is to help adults gain the skills they need for work, further education, and everyday life.

Cost Info

All programming is free. There is no cost to participate in high school equivalency classes, English language classes, or adult basic education courses. Instructional materials, assessments, and required coursework are provided at no charge.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Maria came to Stratford–Trumbull Continuing Education with very limited English skills. She wanted to better communicate with her children's teachers and find stable employment. When she started, she was nervous about speaking in class and using technology. Through regular attendance in ESL classes, access to classroom books, and practice using online learning tools, Maria gained confidence in reading, writing, and speaking English. She now participates in class discussions, completes assignments independently, and uses English in daily life. Maria recently shared that she feels more confident helping her children with school and is exploring new job opportunities. Her progress shows how access to supportive instruction and learning resources can change lives.
