The STARS program was started in 2017 at the request of the Phoenixville Area School District to address the academic bap which exists between under-resourced households and their better resourced peers. We provide STEM education one night a week and book clubs another. Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Maddie joined our program as a first grader and was struggling to read, and didn't enjoy reading because of her struggle. The strength of our program is our dedicated volunteers who promote learning through relationship. Maddie bonded immediately with one of our volunteers and quickly dubbed her as "my bff". Through patient guidance, encouragement, and time, Maddie took off! She cracked the code to reading and was eager to not only learn but also to engage in reading as a pasttime. "I read all the time now," says Maddie, "I read to my baby brother every night, I read at bedtime and I love it! Thank you for giving me a chance!"
