Program Overview

Sound Learning serves a diverse community of learners, and has been a reliable provider of quality, accessible, innovative education programs in Mason and Thurston Counties for the past 27 years. We serve over 200 students each program year.

Our programs provide high quality instruction that supports individuals in developing the skills needed to navigate community systems and progress along career and college pathways that lead to sustainable employment, a strong economy, healthy families, and active communities.

We do this by offering programs customized for adults and out-of-school youth who are working toward completion of a high school diploma or GED certificate; want to strengthen their English language, reading, writing, math, and computer
skills in service of employment and personal goals; or are interested in brushing up on skills in order to take the next step on their career and training pathway.

Trained community volunteers are critical to our educational model. Supported by experienced staff and instructors, volunteers enable us to offer classes using a small group format
that gives students a high level of support and practice. We strive to make students feel welcome and offer learning opportunities that are level appropriate, high interest, and reflect students' priorities and input.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

Owen came to Sound Learning to earn his GED. A new training had become available through his employer that would strengthen his future job prospects, but it was only for employees with a high school diploma or GED.

Owen was under significant pressure to finish his GED in a short period of time – 3 months – in order to take advantage of this opportunity. Owen studied hard after long days at his manufacturing job to refresh his math, reading, and writing
skills. After a lot of hard work he earned his GED, gained renewed confidence in his abilities, and was able to
participate in the vocational training classes. Owen credits Sound Learning with helping him keep his job and take the next step on his career journey toward better earnings. His wife and
children are very proud of him.
