Program Overview

Founded in 2017, SHC engages with refugees and immigrants in the metropolitan Washington, DC area to help newcomers connect to the people, resources and services in their new communities.

SHC's English Language Learners Program is conducted remotely on Zoom twice a week. Classes are supportive environments where students learn English and connect to a warm and inclusive learning community. In person conversation groups for all learner levels meet at the New Carrollton Library located at 7414 Riverdale Road, New Carrollton, MD on Wednesdays at 10:30.

SHC's online Citizenship Preparation classes prepare students for the Civics Exam portion of the naturalization interview.

All SHC classes are taught by professionally certified English Language instructors on Zoom.
