Program Overview

SNHS' Portsmouth Adult Education Program provides quality adult education services to the greater Portsmouth community. Classroom-based instruction is available for adults (18 years and older) in need of improving academic skills in the areas of reading, writing and math, as well as high school equivalency preparation (Academic Skills/HiSET classes). Additionally, classroom instruction in English language skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing) for speakers of other languages (ESL classes) is provided.


Academic Skills/HiSET Preparation Classes

· AS/HiSET Classes: scheduled with instructor (remotely)


ESL (English for Speakers of other Languages) Classes:

· Day Basic ESL Classes: Tuesdays/Thursdays

9:00 am – 10:30 am (remote)

· Day Intermediate ESL Classes: Wednesdays/Fridays

9:00 am – 10:30 am (remote)

· Day Advanced ESL Classes: Tuesdays

9:00 am – 11:00 am (remote)

·Evening ESL Level 1 & 2 Classes: Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:00 – 8:00 pm (remote)


►Counselor support services include community, employment and training resources, as well as career and college planning available to all learners enrolled in classes.

All classes are FREE! There is an open entry/open exit
policy, allowing learners to join classes at any time during the September to June program year. All classes are being held remotely (Zoom) until further notice.


Classes are held at the Community Campus, 100 Campus Drive, in Portsmouth and are accessible by the Coast Bus system. Call 422-8233, for more information and to schedule a registration appointment.

Portsmouth Adult Education is a program administered by Southern New Hampshire Services, Inc. a non-profit, anti-poverty agency serving Hillsborough and Rockingham Counties in New Hampshire.
