Student and Volunteer Success Stories

She worked full time and cared for three kids. Every dollar mattered. She dreamed of a better job in healthcare, but one thing stood in the way: no GED. Day classes wouldn't work, and late nights were hard after dinner, homework, and baths.

She found a flexible GED program at Skilled US. Classes ran mornings, evenings, and Saturdays. If a shift changed, she switched times. When the sitter canceled, staff helped her make a new plan. Teachers focused on clear reading steps and real-life math—medication labels, time sheets, and budgets—so every lesson felt useful.

Progress was slow at first. She studied on lunch breaks, read on the bus, and practiced math after the kids fell asleep. A coach checked in each week with small goals and kind reminders. Step by step, her confidence grew.

Test day came. She used every strategy she had learned. A few days later, the results arrived: she passed all four exams. Relief turned into hope.

With the GED done, she started career training in the medical field. The schedule still fit her life, and the training led to a new role at a local clinic. The job came with steady hours, health insurance, and a paycheck that covered rent and groceries without the constant worry.

Now, mornings feel different. She packs lunches, gets the kids to school, and heads to work in scrubs. She helps patients, learns new skills, and sees a clear path forward. The GED opened the door; the training moved her through it. Today she can support her family with a job that has benefits—and a future that feels possible.
