Student and Volunteer Success Stories

When a family arrived in Iowa, life was challenging. Their young child struggled in preschool because they didn't understand English. The mother also found everyday tasks difficult since she couldn't read or speak English well. She wanted to help her child but didn't know where to start.

Then, they found the Shalom Community Impact Center. The child joined the preschool program, where patient teachers helped them learn English through songs, stories, and play. Soon, they started speaking with confidence and making new friends.

At the same time, the mother joined the adult English class. With the support of caring teachers and volunteers, she began learning to read, write, and speak in English. After months of hard work, she is starting to feel confident in everyday English tasks, like reading simple books to her child, helping with schoolwork, and speaking at the grocery store and doctor's office.

Now, the family feels more at home in their community. The child is thriving in school, and the mother is proud of her progress. Their story is a testament to the power of education, determination, and the support of a welcoming community.
