Program Overview

The San Antonio Public Library Foundation's (SAPLF) mission is to strengthen the Library in service to our community. The SAPLF supports our library system with additional funding for programming (Little Read Wagon, Learn@SAPL, Summer Reading), book collections (print, digital and audio), capital projects and more.

In addition to supporting our Library system, we have two internal early childhood literacy programs.

• Born to Read: Established in 2003, promotes, encourages, and supports early childhood literacy development through the distribution of books throughout our community. We encourage parents and caregivers to read to children at the earliest stages of life. We work with partners in our community to distribute age-appropriate books and encourage utilization of our local libraries.

• Literacy Caravan: Established in 2008, the Caravan aims to increase enjoyment of reading and writing for low-income, at-risk kids in San Antonio and Bexar County, provide access to high quality reading materials, and give families the tools they need to encourage literacy skills at home.
