Program Overview

Royce Learning Center was founded in 1970 by Harriet Royce, along with a small group of other professionals and parents who were advocates for individuals with learning disabilities. As a noted educator of the learning disabled, Mrs. Royce and her peers realized that education could change the life of an individual and their families, ultimately resulting in a stronger and healthier Savannah community.

Since it's inception Royce has served those who learn differently, want to improve their academic skills, or seek to attain specific credentials or certifications for the workplace. With students ranging in age from Pre-K to 91 years of age, Royce Learning Center continues to meet the needs of children and adults with learning differences and literacy needs through its three unique programs:

Chatham Academy, The Adult & Community Education (ACE) program, and The Tutoring Center.

The Adult and Community Education (ACE) program serves adults desiring to enhance their literacy skills or prepare for their GED, ACT, ASVAB, or any test for work or college. This program provides support services for most academic endeavors.

The Tutoring Center offers one-to-one tutoring for all ages, subjects, grade levels, and learning styles. The staff has expertise working with non-traditional learners as well as preparing students for specific high school or college exams.
Chatham Academy is the only school in the Savannah area serving students in grades 1 through 12 with learning differences. The teachers are trained to use a sequential and multi-sensory approach to address the learning needs of the students. This approach is effective in any educational setting, but it is especially valuable for those who learn differently.

Royce Learning Center encourages you to visit or inquire about their programs to experience firsthand the level of expertise and caring their staff possesses.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

"Royce Learning Center worked with our grandson from early elementary through high school. Throughout this time, they adjusted their training to match the curriculum of the local public schools. They helped our grandson to understand his homework assignments. Equally valuable, Royce provided guidance and perspective to help him grow into a fine young man."

Adult Community Education (ACE):

"I enrolled at Royce Learning Center Adult and Community Education class after high school and never finished. I always regretted that, so twenty years later, I decided that it was time to go back to school and earn a GED. I got to know the teachers and tutors at Royce Learning Center Adult and Community Education (ACE) classes in a different way. The environment at this ACE program is so completely different. The one-to one support helps you tremendously. You are not looking around to see who is observing your inabilities. The teachers and tutors know who you are...care about who you are...and want to see you succeed."
