Program Overview

We are so excited to invite you to Roots and Readings. This is a special program at the Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church (SMUUCh). It is made for families who want to learn, read, and grow together.

This program is for families with young children. It is perfect for kids from birth (age 0) up to 3rd grade. We also have a special place for parents and caregivers to learn new skills!

Our program helps the whole family. We provide three main things:

  • Fun for Kids We have 5 new "Literacy Nooks" (mini-libraries) in our Children's Hallway. Kids can explore great books and even take some home to read!
  • Help for Adults. While kids are playing and learning, adults can join our Parent Lab. We offer help with reading, writing, and English skills, especially in regards to your child's education. .
  • Family Time: You will get to work directly with your child. We will show you fun ways to read together that help your child get ready for school.

You don't need to be a member of the church to come. Everyone is welcome! We will host Quarterly Literacy Nights with a free healthy meal for every family.
