There are many personal stories demonstrating the reason for RLP's program. Consider Daniel (not his real name). Daniel, a refugee father, worked stocking shelves at Walmart. He had the work ethic and the leadership potential to advance, but his advancement was limited by his level of English proficiency. Daniel remained a faithful student, attending all learning opportunities RLP offered. Through RLP's classes and tutoring, his English skills and confidence grew steadily. This past summer, he approached his volunteer 1-on-1 tutor and asked for help applying for a higher-paying Team Lead position.
They practiced vocabulary, wrote answers to interview questions, and role-played workplace scenarios. When the position opened, Daniel applied and was promoted to this higher paying Team Lead position. He now brings real workplace challenges to his teachers and classmates. Together they problem-solve new dilemmas as he grows in his understanding of how to best manage the employees under him.
Daniel's story reflects exactly what RLP's English education program aims to do: help hardworking adults gain the communication tools they need to access opportunity, improve stability, and contribute at a higher level in the workforce.
