Program Overview
Ready to Learn (R2L) is an early-childhood education program that helps immigrant and refugee parents prepare their young children to be ready to learn as they enter kindergarten and to succeed in school. R2L outreach workers and volunteers visit families homes to work with parents and children, birth to age five, to prepare the children to enter kindergarten "ready to learn". R2L promotes learning in both directions- for new
immigrants to succeed in their new community, and for long-standing community members to learn about the immigrant experience, gifts and talents they bring. R2L helps parents understand the school system, how to interact with it as a parent, and the importance of education for their children.
R2L provides weekly home visits to families September through May and a summer program that brings families together in local parks for educational activities. They also help the moms understand the school system, how to interact with it as a parent, and the importance of education to their children. Ready to Learn utilizes the Growing Great Kids curriculum for children birth-5 as well as the Ages and Stages Questionnaires for development and social/emotional screening.
