Reading Assistance Program

Program Overview

The Reading Assistance Program at St. Luke Baptist Church has helped children and adults in our community for more than 25 years. The program works to close learning gaps and support reading success. Many students have improved their school grades, and adults have gained skills that helped them find better job opportunities.

The program is open to everyone in the community. Children, teens, and adults are welcome to attend. Students receive one-on-one reading support during weekly sessions held on the church property. Each session focuses on important reading skills, including:

• Learning letter sounds and matching sounds to words
• Reading and saying words correctly
• Building sentences
• Improving reading speed and confidence
• Understanding what is read through comprehension activities
