Program Overview
Read to Me Project helps under-served children achieve kindergarten readiness and a lifetime of literacy by empowering school age brothers and sisters to read to their young siblings at home. We also raise public awareness about the literacy crisis and the need for language development and pre-reading skills during a child's first five years of life.
RtMP provides children ages 6 months to 5 years, when 85% of brain development occurs, with the foundation for language and learning by coaching their 4th, 5th and 6th grade siblings to regularly read to them. Through coaching sessions with RtMP staff, participating students learn ways to read aloud that spark the little one's brain, inspires curiosity, and develops the language, vocabulary and cognitive knowledge needed to start school on track to succeed. This brilliantly simple effort between siblings is setting lives on course for success in school year-over-year and for a lifetime of equity and greater opportunities.
Proven impacts!
An independent/third-party program impact evaluation reported that students participating in the Read to Me Project improved their scores by 68% greater on standardized assessments compared to students who were not in the program. https://readtomeproject.org/impact-evaluation-repo...
