Program Overview

Our program has been serving adult learners who can speak enough English to communicate for nearly a decade. We address the following needs: GED Prep, Hi-Set Prep, Driver's License Written Test Prep, Citizenship Test Prep, Computer Use Basics and General Improvement in all subject areas up to the GED Level (Reading/Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science).

We offer our services in a 1 on 1 tutoring format using a specific curriculum based on the needs of our learner. We also provide workshops in the Conversation Circle format. Our Conversation Circles are designed to help you use your English skills in a conversation setting. All of our services are free. Our 1 on 1 tutoring service is by appointment only and our workshops are on a walk-in basis. Due to a shortage of volunteers, we have a waitlist and are only able to serve the Merced, Atwater and Los Banos area at this time.

Those who volunteer to be tutors in our program are given 8 hours of training and opportunities for periodic trainings to help them learn how to help their learners reach their goals. Volunteering at our program is more than just giving back to the community. It is about building a stronger foundation for a better community. This program seeks to change Merced through education. At Read and Succeed, we fight against the "glass ceiling" by providing our learners with the tools to break their own "glass ceilings" in order to reach their goals.
