Program Overview

Since 2015 Seniors, Adults, Youth in Need, Inc. (S.A.Y. In Need), has provided literacy, food, and other supportive services in Winder, Georgia. Through its Read and Feed program, S.A.Y. In Need addresses critical literacy and food insecurity issues to underprivileged people. This initiative provides private tutoring and small groups for academic support, meals, and mentorship to students after school and during the summer, carrying on the legacy of Mrs. Maggie Pope.

Formerly known as the Maggie Bell Pope Ministries, S.A.Y. In Need was established to honor Mrs. Pope's legacy of love and service to others. In December 2005, Maggie Bell Pope's Forget Me Not Senior program began feeding and giving Christmas baskets to seniors living at Ft. Yargo Winder Housing. For decades, Mrs. Pope reached out to individuals who were sick, hospitalized, or incarcerated. Also, she made a point to acknowledge birthdays, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions, sending letters and greeting cards. The Maggie Bell Pope Ministries fed and provided transportation to low-income people, while also running an after-school program in Winder.

S.A.Y. In Need supports individuals and families facing financial hardship by providing essential resources, educational programs, and wellness opportunities. Through partnerships, fundraising efforts, and outreach, we strive to empower underserved communities, enabling individuals and families to attain a better quality of life.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

At our 2024 Christmas WHA Senior Celebration, we fed over 125 people; some dined in, some picked up their meals, and other meals were delivered to those homebound or with no transportation. Unexpected families showed up with their children, and we thank God that no one was refused a good, hot meal.

In 2023, we held the Lads to Legacy Etiquette luncheon in Centerville, GA. Through the gracious sponsorship of Zaxby's, our future legacies were able to learn the basics of male etiquette, and mentorship, and had fun doing it!
