Program Overview
The aim of the Book Club is to guide our participants to read books that provide messages of empowerment. The young ladies and women participate in discussion, sharing the powerful messages each chapter provides. The readers are encouraged to express how they will implement each lesson into their individual lives. Through consistent reading, their thoughts of self-becoming are uplifted and this forum contributes to the academic success of our adolescent participants. Consistent reading will also sharpen comprehension skills, expand vocabulary, and improve fluency in reading. These are but a few of the books the young ladies will be reading:
1. Mirror Mirror On The Wall…Who Am I After All?
2. The Coldest Winter Ever
3. Ten Things I Hate About Myself
4. Reverencing the Wombs that Broke You!

One of our students, Ruqaiyyah, wrote a report upon returning to school as proof of her summer reading in our Book Club. She obtained extra credit and the teacher contacted her parents to inform them that she enjoyed her report so much that she purchased the book herself because it had so many valuable lessons within the book. This occurred in Astoria, Queens NY.
