Program Overview
For over 35 years, PUENTE Learning Center has served Boyle Heights and surrounding East Los Angeles communities through our mission embodied in our name, which stands for "People United to Enrich the Neighborhood through Education." PUENTE, also the Spanish word for 'bridge', started as a small tutoring program and developed comprehensive education and wrap-around services for children, youth and adults.
Besides offering free ESL, High School Diploma or HiSET preparation, and Citizenship classes, PUENTE operates a state licensed preschool, charter elementary school grades TK-5, free afterschool and summer enrichment for PUENTE Charter students, and a College and Career Program for local youth ages 14 to 24.
Cost Info
PUENTE Learning Center provides financial assistance to students taking the HiSET exam. PUENTE will cover the cost of $85 required to take the HiSET exam.Student and Volunteer Success Stories
Andy has been a dedicated volunteer at PUENTE Learning Center since 1990. He currently volunteers in the PUENTE Adult Education Program as an ESL Citizenship instructor helping students study for the citizenship exam. Andy works one-on-one with his students especially leading up to the citizenship exam and interview. Andy has attended numerous swearing-in ceremonies with his students and in the past 7 years, Andy has helped 69 immigrants become US citizens.
