Program Overview

The Prison Writes Initiative was established to bring literacy and writing classes to Mississippi prisons. Our innovative creative writing classes, have been instrumental in helping incarcerated G.E.D, students improve their comprehension scores drastically, and therefore increasing graduation rates in all the prisons where we have classes. We have won two major regional awards over the past year. Ours is the only program of its kind in the state of Mississippi.

Mission Statement

Our organization was founded to help incarcerated students get a new lease on life by offering them the most professional reading and writing classes in the state of Mississippi. Our mission is clear: to help those students who need help the most.

Hours of operation: 40

Cost info: To teach the 15 classes we teach in 5 different prisons, including men, women, and children, costs approximately $20,000.00 annually.
