Program Overview

Preschool Readings are conducted four times during the school year. The book is read aloud to the class and an interactive activity is played. Each child brings home a book, activity and a suggestion page for how parents/caregivers can engage with their child over the book. The 2018-19 school year we have read to over 600 children and given 2560 free books to those children. Our program is growing by ten schools in the 2019-20 school year adding 200 children to the program.

Elementary School classroom reading is done one hour per month on the third Wednesday. Each child receives a book to bring home. Volunteer reader shares a book or story with the classroom and asks engaging questions. Reading to children modules fluency offers a variety of genres and encourages them to read themselves. We provide the books.

Cost Info

Preschool and elementary classroom readings are conducted free of charge to participating Springfield public preschools.
