Program Overview
Pittsylvania County Schools' Adult Basic Education Program is designed to assist county residents who are 18 years of age (or older), no longer enrolled in school, and have not received a high school diploma. This program also assists those who need to brush up on academic and work readiness skills. According to the 2010 Census, there are 10,774 residents without a high school diploma.
Most classes are held August through May and meet at least twice a week. Adults may enroll at any time during the year by going to the Adult Learning Center (ALC) site located at 11700 US HWY 29 North. Participants work at their individual pace to acquire the skills needed to meet their individual goals, which often includes GED® testing. Scholarships are available to assist with the cost of testing.
