Program Overview
The Parent Activators Program helps parents and caregivers learn how to support their children's reading and learning at home. This program is open to parents and guardians of K–12 students in our community. You do not need any special training to join—just a desire to help your child succeed.
In this program, parents take part in workshops, group discussions, and hands-on activities focused on literacy. Families learn simple ways to build reading skills, improve vocabulary, and support homework. We also teach parents how to understand school data, talk with teachers, and advocate for their child's needs.
Meetings are held at local schools and community centers, with some virtual options available. Childcare, materials, and resources are often provided at no cost. Our trained staff and coaches guide parents every step of the way.
By joining the Parent Activators Program, families gain confidence, knowledge, and tools to help their children become strong readers and lifelong learners.

Before learning about Activate MO, Shae Lowman's first-grade daughter was struggling with reading, but Lowman didn't know where to begin to address the problem.
“Tiara did a presentation about who to start with," Shae Lowman said. “I sent my daughter's teacher a text and the next week they had my daughter reading. Having the courage and support to point out the discrepancies my daughter was having is fabulous."
