Program Overview
One to One Practicing Reading with Students One to One: Practicing Reading with Students is purposely designed to focus on improving student achievement in reading, produce measurable results, is evaluated regularly and is sustainable over time. One to One provides the following opportunities:
• a struggling reader in grades K-3 to practice reading and gain self-confidence,
• volunteers who have a relevant role within schools that help students and teachers,
• community and business volunteers to impact student achievement.
Community, Business and Youth volunteers are trained to become literacy coaches. Coaches receive a comprehensive six hour training delivered by a One to One training consultant. The training is designed to provide best practice strategies and activities necessary to help a child become an engaged reader. Coaches use a structured format to practice specific learning strategies with children in order to increase their reading achievement.
