Program Overview

Launched in 2017, One Book One Bronx is more than a book club—it's a movement that uses literature to build community, spark dialogue, and empower readers. It fosters critical thinking and cultural awareness by selecting books that highlight diverse voices and social issues. The program makes reading accessible through free books and open discussions, turning it into a communal and reflective practice. Participants develop stronger literacy skills, confidence, and a deeper connection to their own stories. More than just reading, One Book One Bronx creates a culture where books inspire action, strengthen voices, and bring people together—one story at a time.

Each month we select a different book, then over five consecutive weeks, we come together to discuss the book. Participants have the opportunity to strengthen literacy and critical thinking by sharing personal narratives connected to the text. All participants receive a complementary book.
