Literacy Programs
Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instruction
ABE instruction emphasizes skills related to adult literacy needs, educational goals, and personal interests. Real-world materials are used to enhance the educational experience of the adult learner. Adults enrolled in ABE classes can begin with basic literacy skills and advance to high school equivalency preparation and vocational training.
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Instruction
ESOL instruction teaches students basic language skills, as well as the academic and civic skills they need to successfully complete higher education or job training programs. The emphasis is on improving English skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Instructional themes include work, family, citizenship, and topics based on student interests.
