Program Overview
Northern Virginia Imagination Library is a free early literacy program for families with young children in the City of Alexandria. The program is open to all children from birth through age five, regardless of income, immigration status, or family background. Once a child is enrolled, they receive one high quality, age appropriate book mailed directly to their home every month at no cost to the family.
The program helps parents and caregivers build daily reading habits with their children. Reading together supports early language skills, school readiness, and family connection. Books are selected by child development experts and grow with the child as they get older.
Enrollment is simple and free. Families sign up once and continue receiving books until the child turns five. Northern Virginia Imagination Library works in partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and is run locally by community volunteers who focus on outreach and access for all neighborhoods.
