Program Overview

Next Chapter: LevelUp Literacy for Adults is a free adult literacy program for adults ages 18 and older who want to improve their reading, writing, and basic education skills. The program is open to community members who may need help with everyday reading, completing forms, preparing for work, or getting ready for a GED or high school equivalency exam.

Classes are held in small groups at The Gatherings' community-based location in Bessemer and nearby partner sites. Participants receive supportive instruction focused on real-life skills, including reading comprehension, basic math, writing, and digital literacy. Instruction is designed to meet adults where they are and help them build confidence at their own pace.

The program offers a welcoming and respectful learning environment led by caring instructors. No prior experience is required, and all learning materials are provided. Adults interested in improving their skills for work, education, or daily life are encouraged to participate.
