Program Overview

The Need: Background and Research

With
Common Core State Standards
being implemented across the country, it is imperative that
students are capable of demonstrating advancement in writing and reading comprehension skills
and that they are inline with their grade level peers around the country. Common Core State
Standards
(CSSS) are academic standards developed by 48 states and implemented by 46 of
those states and the District of Columbia. The CSSS were created to provide consistent and clear
curriculum that adequately prepares young people for college, the workforce and
the military.
Each year in their writing, students should demonstrate increasing sophistication in all aspects of
language use, from vocabulary and syntax to the development and organization of ideas, and
they should address increasingly demanding content
and sources. With nearly 90 percent of U.S.
students incorporated into the program by the 2015
-
16 school year, CSSS is expected to
transform teaching and learning in the country.

assist by working as instructional designers
. In this capacity, we will become resource managers proving an opportunity and a platform for students to have their voices heard, while engaging technology and improving both reading
