Program Overview

Never Too Late is an adult literacy program offered by Guiding Path Enrichment Center in the CSRA. This program is for adults who want help with reading, writing, and basic math skills. It is designed for adults who may have missed learning opportunities in the past or need extra support for work, daily life, or continued education. Services are free or low-cost. Classes are offered in small groups or one-on-one to help learners feel comfortable and supported. Lessons focus on real-life skills such as reading forms and instructions, writing for communication or jobs, building vocabulary, and improving confidence. Participants can also receive guidance on next steps, including GED programs, job training, or continuing education. Classes take place at our learning center and at partner locations throughout the community to make attendance easier. Adults may sign up on their own or be referred by community partners. Instruction is led by trained teachers and volunteers who understand adult learners and provide a respectful, encouraging learning environment. Never Too Late believes learning is for everyone, at any age.

Student and Volunteer Success Stories

When Jim began volunteering with the Never Too Late Adult Literacy Program, he hoped to make a difference, but he didn't expect how meaningful the experience would become. As a volunteer tutor, Jim worked one-on-one with adult learners who were improving their reading and writing skills for everyday life. At first, Jim was unsure if he had enough experience to help. With guidance from program staff and access to lesson materials, he quickly gained confidence. He learned how to break lessons into small steps and meet learners where they were. Over time, he saw learners become more confident, reading signs, filling out forms, and speaking up during lessons. Jim shared that volunteering helped him grow as a leader and communicator. “Seeing someone believe in themselves because of your support is powerful," he said. The experience strengthened his connection to the community and inspired him to continue serving. Jim's story shows how volunteers play a vital role in adult literacy, and how giving time can change lives, including their own.
