Program Overview
The Mother Veronica Resource Center was established in 2015 in response to the requests of newcomers to our community. It is sponsored by the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters. We accept adults 18 years old and older as students. Classes in ESL (English as a Second Language), GED Preparation (Students may take these classes in English or in Spanish), Citizenship Preparation (classes in English), and Computer Skills Training (currently in English and Spanish). In addition to the classes offered, we also offer tutoring in ABE (reading and writing), pre-GED and GED preparation, and in Citizenship preparation for those who cannot attend the scheduled course or whose date of testing is imminent. GED students have access to online learning tools and can take the GED Practice Test free of charge. The Center has a display rack of social services information and will research information requested by students, which is not currently on display. Information about job fairs, English conversation classes, other adult education programs in the area, and more is made available.
Classes are offered in the morning and evening twice a week for an hour and a half each and taken on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. There are some classes offered at Alvernia University's CollegeTowne campus at 401 Penn St. in Reading in the evenings and on Saturdays. A fee is charged to cover the cost of books received but can be reduced or waived.
